25 Jahre AVM - Workshop 6
Acceptance and mindfulness in psychotherapy

Samstag, 08. Oktober 2016, 14.00 - 17.00 Uhr

Dr. Barbara Barcaccia (Vortragssprache: Englisch)

It is well known that cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) has proven to be one of the most effective treatments for several psychiatric disorders, and is considered the elective form of treatment for many of them, as well as for many other clinically relevant problems. In recent years several methods and techniques emphasizing the importance of noticing and accepting aversive internal experiences, rather than attempting to change, escape, suppress, neutralize them, have been proposed in the field of psychotherapy.
Mindfulness is a practice promoting awareness to internal experiences such as thoughts, mental images, emotions, so that individuals can be helped to observe and accept non-judgmentally one's moment-to-moment experience, and not engage in counterproductive attempts at solution, such as trying to avoid, suppress, or over-engage with one's distressing thoughts and emotions (Hayes & Feldman, 2004; Kabat-Zinn, 1990; Keng, Smoski & Robins, 2011).
In the course of this workshop participants will be presented with the newest available tools deriving from ACT, particularly Experiential Acceptance, Cognitive Defusion and the work on Values, along with the mindfulness practice of Breathing Meditation.
The strategies and techniques will be presented in an experiential way, in which participants will be invited to practice the proposed techniques.
